In addition to Betty Fowler, Bud Campbell was also a favorite on Little Rock television sets "back in the day.”
"For Arkansans of a certain age, KATV Sports Director and Voice of the Razorbacks Bud Campbell may have been better-known, certainly more celebrated, than any governor. In the pre-internet, pre-cellphone era of 1974, when we had three network affiliates plus “educational TV” on Channel 2, TV personalties seemed like part of the family. There was statewide shock and grief when Bud Campbell’s death was announced. What’s your memory of Bud Campbell?
"C. N. (Bud) Campbell, sports director of television station KATV in Little Rock, was killed in a one-car accident in Pulaski County, Ark., October 3. He was 51. Campbell broadcast University of Arkansas football games on the school's radio network for many years and also had a weekly interview program with Frank Broyles, the Razorback coach, during the grid season. A graduate of Louisiana State University, Campbell was a sports announce for station WIND in Chicago before moving to Little Rock in 1954.
Then for years there has been this sad gossip around Little Rock concerning Bud Campbell and a possible son. If it was ever verified, one way or the other, I don't know about it. Many of our Classmates feel certain this man was indeed Bud Campbell's son.
