THROW BACK THURSDAY - 5TH AND MAIN YESTERDAY AND TODAY  plus Class News

For those of you who haven't been back to Little Rock in several years, here's a view that will be completely unrecognizable to you.  You're standing in the middle of the street at 5th and Main, looking West down Capitol Avenue.  That busy bus stop used to be on your right, with National Hat Co. (was that the name?) on the corner, across the alley the Liberty Sandwich Shop owned by the Pierpaoli's.  On the left side of the street that is still the Boyle Building, then the Capitol Avenue entrance of Franke's.  The Boyle Building was purchased a few years ago by a group who says it will be an upscale hotel.

And here's a look back to 5th and Main and Baker's Show Store a little closer to "our days"

CLASS NEWS

Sad news this week.  We lost J. W. Northern, Diann Perrier's husband.  They had been married for 61 years.  We all loved J.W. and will really miss him.  Their son, Jay, said it best:

" It is a sad day. My father John Northern, peacefully passed away this morning at the age of 84 years. He and mom were married for 61 years. This man lead and had a wonderful life. A selfless individual who cared and tended to so many other people’s needs other than his own. He will be dearly missed. Mom and I are coping, with the Lord’s help. His grace and mercy are with us. Little Rock Funeral Home will be taking care of him. Please keep us in your prayers."

With respect to the story a couple of weeks ago about the home in Hillcrest that mentioned Gene Autry.  Well, turns out Gene Autry was a cousin to Cecelia Autry's grandfather.  She says Gene came to Little Rock quite often to visit her Grandfather.  Small world, huh?
