2023.01.19 THE STARDUSTERS!!!! PLUS CLASS NEWS
Last weekend Betty Chandler and I spent Saturday going through her collection of CDs recently moved from her cottage in Conway to her new residence in Little Rock. We decided it was time to get them organized and see just what all she had. Boy, did we find some jewels!
The best was a CD of THE STARDUSTERS - THEN AND NOW!!! with some songs actually recorded in 1957 and then ones recorded in 2005. What a find!!! When you listen to this CD, you'll find yourself singing along with several of the songs (especially the religious ones), laughing at Glasscock as he booms in with his bass voice to make sure you know it's him and then tearing up when you hear Bobby singing "Only You" again.
So I had this thought. How many of you would be interested in having a copy of this CD? I have no idea how much it will cost to have it reproduced, have the label put on, purchase the CD case and then a padded envelope and postage. If I can get it worked out that it will be about $20 each, would you be interested in purchasing a copy? Remember I have no experience in this. Carolyn Boshears (Gaylon's wife) has offered to jump in and work on this. THANK YOU, CAROLYN! We don't want to do this if we don't have lots of interest plus I'm sure the more copies we order, the cheaper it will be.
So if you would be interested if we can keep the cost down, please let me know and we'll get busy on this!!! Let me say one more thing, I think you will be shocked to realize what a wonderful voice Bobby had back in the 50's. When I first started listening to this CD, I wasn't sure that was Bobby singing. I now fully understand why he was "on his way to stardom" after Central when he was sent on a tour covering New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Baltimore and other cities. When he was in Baltimore he was being interviewed on the radio and lo and behold Brooks Robinson just happened to be listening to that same station. He called Bobby and they had a wonderful conversation. Then Bobby appeared in Little Rock at the Robinson Auditorium and RAY CHARLES OPENED FOR HIM!!! Betty has a picture of the poster, but it is such a light picture, it's hard to copy.
Anyway, let me know if you are interested! Here's all the songs on this CD:
