2023.04.13 Little Rock tornado damage one week out

THROW BACK THURSDAY - TORNADO RESULTS FROM LAST FRIDAY  PLUS CLASS NEWS

Thanks to Joe Crow, here are some pictures of the unbelievable loss and destruction suffered by many of

our Little Rock neighbors and friends.  These were taken of the tornado's path down Shackelford Road

from Breckenridge Drive South.  As far as I know, none of our local Classmates had any loss.  The

high winds did reach within one block of my home, knocking down many trees and then several rental

buildings one more block away.  This is the closest I've ever been to such scenes and I can tell you, it

stays with you for days.  We were all so lucky that the tornado hit at about 2:15p in the afternoon so that

the majority of renters and home owners were at work.  Otherwise, I'm sure we would see a much larger

number of deaths.

Farris Spann is having very serious surgery and could use any encouragement.  If you would like to send him a card,

his address is 4500 Steel Bridge Road, Benton, AR 72015-1205

Your Reunion Committee met Tuesday evening at Gwen Shepherds.  One very important decision was made concerning

our Class Birthday Party which will occur in 2024.  As you all know, we normally always have our parties the last weekend

in September so all of you could plan your cruises and other events around that date.  However, the Committee believes

that we've all reached that point in life that time is of the essence and so to hopefully give more of us an opportunity to attend,

we will be moving the date of the 2024 birthday party up from September to April.  As soon as more details are available, we will

send them along.

When talking about Class parties, many of us immediately think of Bobby Chandler who entertained us so royally for years.

It seems unbelievable, but as of last Thusday, April 6, Bobby left us 11 years ago.   His sister, Betty, took up the mantle and is still

entertaining all of us through her leadership of the Swing Band Reunion.

And speaking of the SWING BAND REUNION, we will be playing a concert this Sunday, April 16, Parkway Village on

Chenal Parkway at 3:00pm.  Come join us for an afternoon of good big band music.
