THROW BACK THURSDAY - THE OLD GUS BLASS DEPARTMENT STORE PLUS CLASS NEWS
Remember the old Blass Department Store at the corner of 4th and Main. Well, Blass left a long time ago and here we are in 2023 and there's a New York-type bar and restaurant on the bottom floor named Samantha's Bar & Grill. And guess who owns and runs it, our Classmate Ronnie Smith's nephew. Funny how these work out. If you live in LR and haven't tried Samantha's. You are missing something special. If you visit LR from time to time, give it a try.

Good news on two Classmates: Judy Callaway and Bill Hedges. Now hold on. Don't get too excited.
It is good news but concerns their HEALTH!!! lol
Bill has moved and is now living in Little Rock in Woodland Heights, Room 5something. He, Terry Warson and Annette
Cole Watson have connected and enjoys having morning coffee with Terry and playing bingo with Annette. Judy says
he enjoys sitting in the sun and reading and pro9bably knows everyone there by now. I would bet that is true! He would love to have visitors or hear from any of you. Every other Thursdays are chemo days which knocks him. He had chemo last week so this is a good week for him.. Bill's cell # if (903) 312-6688 and email: texmethhist@gmail.com
Now to Judy. As you all know, she had hip replacement surgery on February 21. Unfortunately, she had to have repeat surgery in March, then spent several weeks in Rehab. She is now home and healing nicely . . if not too slow for her. I've missed my lunch partner. Hopefully, we'll get back on schedule soon.
Country Club Station was part of my world growing up. We moved to Little Rock in 1940. Mother and Dad rented a house on "R" Street, two blocks from Smith's Drug Store. Lived there until 1950 when we moved to the Hillcrest area. I remember well many of the stores.
I remember A Safeway grocery store at the corner of Kavanaugh and Hwy. 10. Also a grocery store that I think was called "Black and
White", that was closer to Club Road. Bullard's Restaurant was on the corner of Kavanaugh and Club Road. Galidas and Roy Bullard
lived across the street from us on R Street. Bullard's Restaurant later became Hall's Restaurant. Levinson's cleaners was close to the
Restaurant. There was a Service Station (gas station) in the middle of the turn. Cannot remember who owned it, but think it was a Gulf
station. There was also a "variety store" on the corner of Van Buren and Club Drive. I still drive by this area whenever I am in Little Rock.
Jack Dell
Jack: I think it was Judy Stout and now you who have mentioned a grocery store named "Black and White". Don't think I had ever
heard of it.

Leroy Danner was in the hospital for exactly 1-1/2 days fror SHOULDER REPLACEMENT!!! I don't know if he really did that way or
the nurses just couldn't take him anymore, grinning and pinching! But all joking aside, he had wonderful results. He was up and walking around in no time and then at home. When I talked to him last night, he said something that I just have to pass along to all of you. It will let you know he is REALLY OK! "I've now got silver in my hair, gold in my mouth, titanium in my shoulder and hip and lead in my ass.!"
