2023.12.07 THROW BACK THURSDAY -   MEN'S CHRISTMAS LUNCH FOR ALL '56ERS  PLUS CLASS NEWS

This is your invitation to Men's Christmas Lunch. PLEASE read carefully as there are some changes and instructions.

As usual for December the ladies in the class are invited and may bring a guest. The men are encouraged to bring a guest also.

Alley Oops has requested that we start earlier than usual so they can accommodate our large gathering and have room for their regular 

noon customers. It is very important that you MUST make a reservation!!! PLEASE make your reservation by Noon, Tuesday, December 19. 

For name tag purposes, I will need to know the name of your guest.  If you are not able to attend, regrets will be appreciated.

The girls (25 of us!) had our Christmas luncheon at Mary Lou Hosack Billingsley's beautiful home, decorated to the hilt.

She had our lunch catered because she doesn't trust us to make our homemade pot luck creation from our car to her

kitchen .... not that our balance is a little "comprised" these days!  LOL  It was all wonderful and here's a picture of

Mary Jo Bryant, Judy Callaway and Gwen Shepherd.

Our condolences to the family of our friend, Joe Day, who passed away last week, one day before Claudine Summerhill.

Obituary for Joseph John Day Jr.

Joseph John Day Jr, 85, a resident of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed quietly on Wednesday, November 29th, at Life Care of Collegedale. Joseph was born in Little Rock, AR, the son of the late Joseph John Day, Sr and Jean. He is preceded in death by his sister, Carol Sansom and his daughter, Shannon.
Joseph was a graduate of Little Rock High School where he was an active scholar-athlete. Joseph completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the University of Arkansas in 1962 where he was also a Dean’s Business Advisory Committee member for the College of Business Administration from 1968-1971, in addition to holding a Lifetime Membership in the Razorback Club for his Track accomplishments in 1957, 1958 and 1959.
Joseph retired from a career with Olin Chemicals in Human Resources/ Labor Relations Management, having helped teams in Doe Run, KY, and Lake Charles, LA, before focusing on operations in Stamford, CT.
Joseph was involved with several benevolent organizations throughout his sojourn on this marble, including Rotary Club, the Benevolent Order of Elks and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. As an avid linksman, Joseph was also part of the Walter Hagen National Champion Scratch Team in 1981, having participated for several years in this exceptional fundraising event.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joan Elaine Day of Ooltewah, TN; children: Joe III (Vanessa), David (Kriste), David (Abby), Kellie (Shawn) and Douglas (Sonya); grandchildren: Ryan, Zachary, Jacob, Morgan, Peyton, Parker, London, Maggie and Gracie.
The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Sunday, December 10 at 3 pm at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel in Cleveland, Tennessee. The family requests that memorials be made in honor of Joseph to the no kill animal shelter with the following link – Ark of Cleveland Donations. The family will receive friends from 2 pm. until 3 pm Sunday for visitation at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.

CLASSMATE FOUND:  Betty Pritchard and Carolyn Polk went all through school together until our Senior Year

when Carolyn's parents moved to Texas because of the father's job.  They have stayed in touch all these

years and now Carolyn is interested in coming back to Little Rock for our 85th Birthday Party next year.  If

any of you knew Carolyn, please let me know and I'll give you her phone number in Spring, TX, and we can

all encourage her to come.  She is now Carolyn Polk Strange.
