THROW BACK THURSDAY - ODE TO OLD TIGERS FOUND SOMEWHERE!  PLUS GREAT PICTURE AND CLASS NEWS

This week's TBT is being sent on Wednesday, because early Thursday morning I will be on a Delta flight to Connecticut!  Hope you find this!

Thanks, Syd Orton, for passing this along.

Our years at Central were oh-so-great,   54, 55 and 56 were our fate.

How we loved that building on Park Street.   Passing it now is still a treat!

We arrived at school early to flirt and talk, cause if the tardy bell rang, off to the office we'd go.

Yellow school buses, we didn't have any.  We walked everywhere, that's why we were skinny!

A strict dress code was no bother to us, we were correctly attired without making a fuss.

The guys wore loafers, white socks, cuffed jeans and shirts.   Girls wore dresses or sweaters and skirts.

The guys weren't tattooed with pants sagging to there.  Pierced belly buttons on girls - no way, too square.

No drugs, thugs or guns brought to school, just fun-loving teens following the rules!

No smooching in the halls back in 54, 55 or 56, Miss Opie and Ms. Huckabee would send us to the study hall.

We wrote mushy notes, held hands, went steady, the next day we had broken up already.

Little Rock was our own great little town.  Being called names by North Little Rock didn't get us down.
From neighborhoods all over the City we came, but once in the Tiger's Den, we were all the same.

Simple pleasures were just great folly, we'd go to the corner and hope on a trolly.

Only 50 cents for our fare, movie and a treat. Entertainment prices like that are hard to beat.

There were hayrides, dances, bunking parties too!  We never got bored with nothing to do.

Swimming, basketball, football was keen, later we would go to the Razorback drive-in for fun and Coleman ice cream.

Our outings at Lake Nixon or Willow Springs, boy were the girls cute, but in very prim, proper one-piece swimsuits.

Without cell phones, computers, tv or CD's, how did we get along?  A nickel in a jubebox, jitterbugging to a Glenn Miller song.

Carbs or cholesterol, diets weren't a worry, we were young, happy and always in a hurry.

Granoff's burgers were juicy and greasy, and the Blue Goose Footlongs went down nice and easy.

If you got married, you couldn't stay in school.  You were out of there, School Board rule.

Some secret nuptials took place toward the end, but we kept it quiet cause we were all friends.

What wonderful memories to have of those years, and for those we lost we shed some tears.

We were really a special group of people.  Our cup runneth over to have friends so dear.

Our steps aren't so quick these days, a little bit slow, and we have to say "huh?" a lot don't you know,

The old eyesight has dimmed some over time, but OUR SPIRIT IS GREAT.  WE'RE STILL IN OUR PRIME!

And to prove it, look at this picture of Elaine Evans and Larry Francis' family taken a few short years ago!

I laugh every time I see it when I look at Elaine's face and stance.  Looks like she's wondering, "where did these people come from?"

Please say a little prayer for Kay Kerby Smith.  She recently underwent surgery and is having a hard time.

She has this wonderful daughter, Pam, who is taking really good care of her.  And I bet Bob pops in from time to time.

Betty Chandler Ward was honored last Monday night by being inducted into the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame!

It was a wonderful evening, in a packed house, with our own Swing Band Reunion being the main band for the

evening.  Betty and I sincerely thank all of you who donated to the Foundation in her honor.
