2021.01.28 THROW BACK THURSDAY - LEGENDS . . . ONE A TIGER!!! plus Class News
Class News
We've lost a "one of a kind" Classmate. Our deepest sympathy to Sue Harington's
husband, Jim Koetting. Jim says she died suddenly at home and very unexpectedly.
She did have heart problems and liver problems. They lived in Sun Lakes, AZ, and
had just made a road trip to San Diego where he said they had several hours just
to talk about old times. Sue's brother, Donald Harington, was inducted into the
Arkansas Writers Hall of Fame in 1999, just one of his many honors.
(You'll have to scroll down after her picture to get to the body of the obit. I don't
know how to fix that!!!)
Sue Annette Kavanaugh-Koetting
MARCH 7, 1939 – JANUARY 19, 2021
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother....
Sue Annette Kavanaugh-Koetting went to heaven to become an angel and to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, January 19, 2021. She joined her two brothers and her mother and father who preceded her in death. They are surely rejoicing together because she missed them very much.
Sue Kavanaugh-Koetting was filled with love, a generous and adventurous spirit, and the desire to make as many friends as possible. Sue never met a stranger. Many people would say Sue had a big personality. She loved nothing more than to keep everyone laughing and as her family often said she “never let a few facts get in the way of a good story.”
She was born in Little Rock, AR, March 7, 1939 to Jimmie and Conrad Harington. Sue was several years younger than her bothers Conrad Jr. and Donald and received a lot of special attention as the only and quite beautiful little girl to the Haringtons. Growing up, Sue’s years were spent in Little Rock during the school year and in the Arkansas Ozarks during the summers. She always referred to herself as a tomboy and continued throughout her life to enjoy sports and activities. Riding horses, water skiing, snow skiing, swimming and dancing were dear to her; but her first love was tennis. She played competitively and recreationally nearly all of her life.
Sue attended Central High School in Little Rock and went to college at the University of Arkansas. She fell in love with her next-door neighbor and childhood friend Charles (Chuck) William Kavanaugh. It was a wonderful fit for many years because of her love for adventure and travel. Chuck was a Marine Corps pilot and eventually went to work for TWA. They traveled domestically and internationally regularly. Sue had three children with Chuck: Susan in 1959, Charles Jr. in 1960, and Kyle in 1966.
During her years with Chuck, Sue participated in many women’s organizations, was a runway model, and a model/spokesperson for Chantilly perfume. She owned a travel agency and worked as a travel agent until her retirement. Her striking brown eyes, beautiful smile and ability to keep everyone laughing made her a standout in any crowd. Sue and Chuck were divorced in 1971.
Sue lived in Kansas City and for many years she worked and struggled as a single mom. In the fall of 1993, Sue met the love of her life James (Jim) Koetting. Jim and Sue shared 8 children between them. Their children, and her two brothers’ children, remained the center of Sue’s world until she passed.
Jim and Sue moved to Manhattan Beach, CA, where they enjoyed living on the ocean, volunteering, participating in club activities and being near many of their children. Sue had a softer, artistic side to her that not everyone knew about. She wrote poetry, a special past time, and loved to paint.
Jim and Sue moved to Sun Lakes, AZ, in 2007 and they made many friends together. They lived near their daughter Susan and her husband and were only a short drive to other family members in California. Every year they made frequent trips to Kansas City to be with other children, grandchildren and friends.
Sue leaves behind her husband and great love, Jim Koetting. She leaves daughter Susan Kavanaugh (Ken Pavlicek); son Charles and his son Taylor and daughter Ashley; and son Kyle (Stephanie) and their son Kaden and their daughter Addison. She also leaves Jim’s 5 children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her two brothers’ four sons and three daughters, and their many children, are also left behind.
A family memorial service will be held Saturday, January 23, at 4 p.m. at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 East Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, AZ, 85248.

Sadly, Gaylon Boshears is in the hospital on a ventilator with COVID. He needs your prayers. His wife,
Carolyn Boyd, also has COVID, but is at home. She says she just needs prayers. Their son has also
tested positive.

Carolyn Giles was a friend of mine from grammar school. She was in the Class of 1955. I know that many of you knew her.
Much needed smile for the week:
My wife sent me a text that said: "your great!"
So naturally I wrote back, "No, you're great!"
She's been walking around all happy and smiling.
Should I tell her I was just correcting her grammar or leave it?
AND HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GWEN SHEPHERD AND BOGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TODAY'S YOUR DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LIVE IT UP!!!! STAY UP UNTIL 8:00P TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
