THROW BACK THURSDAY - NEW NEWS TODAY - BOYLE BUILDING PLUS CLASS NEWS

The Boyle Building has just been sitting there at 5th and Capitol certainly for as long as I've been moved

back from D.C.  Once before there were plans to rehab it into a Hotel and restaurant, but nothing happened.

I hope they are serious this time.  I bet half of the students that went through Central during the 50's

had a parent or someone they knew that worked in the Boyle Building.  I worked there myself for Eichenbaum,

Scott & Miller after college.

Bobby Chandler would have been 86 one week ago.  I still miss him terribly!!!

We’re all with you, Betty!

And that secret to a happy marriage DID apply to me!!

Betty Chandler

ML - I was instructed that the secret to a happy marriage is “low expectations.”
Maybe there’s more than one way to be “happily married.”

There was an ice house on 9th street between High and Cross that had ice cold watermelons (in season ) and was the one that delivered ice to our house on Dennison just down the street from Brooks Robinson.

Hey Marylou - I lived at 221 Vernon and Jimmy Hefley (who will probably read this and correct the address but let's go with) lived at 301 Fountain.  Our backyards connected with a fence. Lot's of going back and forth.

We were up on a hill and then Vernon and Fountain each started going down hill and met two houses down to a point.  And on that point lived Max Granoff... don't ever remember seeing anyone in that house or any activity.  We just all knew that is where he lived... as kids I guess we thought he might be mean or scary - I'm sure he was not, but it made for good ghost stories, etc.

You said we went to Granoff's after we graduated? Well, I went there with a date a lot long before Senior year and had dinner. And then sometimes with girls or dates we went just to the drive in. I couldn't follow along as to who wrote about Amos, one of the car hops, but I loved it that it was an upscale restaurant drive in and not a milk shake and hamburger place.

If any one takes the time to reduce the Granoff Salad Dressing to a smaller amount and it's good, ask them to share!

Aww, yes, Patsy Tabor's Nash Rambler. Did every girl in the 1956 class ride in that car? My fondness memory was of Patsy and that car and she was so generous and took everyone that wanted to come along. We must have looked like the Clown Car at the Circus when we all piled out of that little thing with a motor!!!!  Fun, fun, fun, fun times... how can anybody say they hated high school. I know we might have acted like we couldn't wait to get out and move on, but we sure did drift back in our old age, so must not have been so terrible after all.

My parents loved the Canton Tea Garden.  Sometimes they would take me there.  We went in through the back door.

The booths that lined each wall had curtains.

Dear Marylou, This is one of the best TBTs you have produced!

Love, Gilbert Rainey

These are a lot more fun, Gilbert, when I have lots of responses from all of you.

But thank you for the compliment!

Must have been a pretty good week.  I haven't heard about any knee replacements, new hips, cataract surgery - OH, OOPS - I knew it was too good to be true.  Not only has Mary Jo Bryant had one eye done, last week the doctor took care of the other eye.  She says surgery itself was a breeze, it's the eye drops that get you.  But her eyesight is greatly improved, so all is well.
