THROW BACK THURSDAY - DEVASTATION IN WAVERLY, TN, HOME OF CLASSMATE NANCY NEWSOME PLUS CLASS NEWS

On Monday, Aug 23, I mostly stayed at my mom’s house so I don’t have too many pictures today. (I’m so tired I almost said “Tuesday, October 23”. And I just realized as I wrote “October 23” that Lydia and Dylan get married in two months. Anyway…) It is surreal here in Waverly. So much loss. So much devastation. So many miracles. So much help. So many offers. So much concern from friends and strangers, all over the world even. It’s crazy to see and experience and be in midst of. But we are so fortunate. We have TEAMS of people showing up. We have all the water we can drink, even though on Main Street there is no water and no power. We’re given food and snacks and cleaning supplies. Haiti is devastated too, even worse. I bet there aren’t pallets of water on street corners over there. Or food trucks. Or the Red Cross and relief teams from near and far. Afghanistan is in crisis. No one on Main Street is being shot at or beheaded. And Christians are showing up in droves instead of being in hiding, waiting to be killed. My overwhelming emotion is gratitude. We are so blessed. I know with every fiber of my being that God is at work in the midst of this devastating crisis. I think today is going to be a turning point. The heat and humidity are going to be brutal. If things weren’t ruined before, the mold and mildew are going to set in big time and ruin them fast. People are going to start getting sick from all the nastiness. And tired. Really tired. “For such a time as this” our people, our community leadership, are here. We are blessed with the best and He is God and He is good.
